What and how we learn is different today than anytime in history.  We have not changed.  The tools we need to learn and the things we need to learn, however, have changed.

Most of what used to be learned in traditional K – 12 classes can be found easily with simple online searches. And any basic technical and/or scientific skill you could ever need is described in great detail in any number of online videos.

On top of that, you have the most unstable job market in almost 100 years, technology developing so rapidly that robots will be doing half the work in another decade, college degrees that some argue are now worthless, and new industries and technologies being invented practically every six months.

Yet we’re still pushing kids through the same curriculum their grandparents went through.

What are the curriculum we should learn.

  1. Communication – This is primary because it is through communication that all knowledge is obtained.
    1. Language, Grammar, Public Speaking, Writing, Media Literacy
  2. Research – This is important because there is so much information available that learning to filter and focus is critical.
    1. Online Searches, Scientific Method
  3. Personal Finance – Understanding how to obtain and manage money in a market economy is fundamental to success.
    1. Balancing a Checkbook
  4. Civics –
    1. Government, History, Sociology
  5. Logic and Reasoning
    1. Facts, Opinions, Conclusions
  6. Math, Science, Biology, etc
